Julie Lumahan

To my fellow classmates, to all grade 11 students, teachers, especially to sir Jimboy Baldesco, Sir Edgar Escolano and also to our special guest have a pleasant morning to everyone. Before anything else I would like to introduce myself first, I am Julie may lumahan standing in front of you to have a speech or to talk about freedom and limitation. So we should know the freedom first, what is freedom? According to my source which is Merriam Webster, freedom is quality or state of being free. So let me ask you some weird question. You and all of us, are we really free? Are we? Oh come on guys try to think of that, try to ask yourselves. Are we really free to do anything? Are we really free to do whatever want to do. Are we? Are we sure that we have a freedom? Are we? In my prediction, I think there are 97% people who believed that they are truly free, they are free to do anything but there are still have 3% people who’s not sure or still confused if they are free or not am I right? So guys let me try these one if this is effective for everyone. Try to imagine Anna is a working student In her schools there are so many activities, project, and etc. that she will do every weekend and at the same time after her class or if she has a vacant time she must do her task which is being a working student of their school. Sweeping here, sweeping there, cleaning here and cleaning there. The question is Anna’s do this because she wants to or she have to? Anna’s might reply yes of course I’m doing this because I want to finish my studies so that in the near future is not hard for me to find or get a nice job and helping my parents too is one of my goals. Do you think guys? She wants to do what she do or do she do it because she have to? On the other hand, some people are lucky enough to do what they want because they want to do such things. Imagine Kathryn bernardo and Daniel padilla earnings millions of money from being an actor and actress. Isn’t everybody’s dream to earn money from doing what she or he wants to do in the first place, in either case what we see is that practical human are always derived from certain motives. The decision of Anna why she keeps doing this is she wants to finish her studies for her family. Anna’s does not do her job as a working student just because she does it because she consented to the fact that she has to do it even if she does not want to. Limitation what is limitation you may ask? Limitation is the act of limiting something or being no choice, no reason to decide. Based on a French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre he asserted that “Man is condemned to be free” but aside from being free in a first place there is limitation. There are certain facts about yourself that you have no control over. The first limitation is that you did not choose to exist a human being. As a human being you are bound to grow old or they called the second childishness, sans everything. Being a human has a lot of factors needed to live such as Water, Oxygen, Clothes, Food and Shelter. We are the creature having the subject of moral laws. Sometimes we felt jealous to the creatures here on earth why we are not made like them such as birds that can fly, fish that can breathe under the water and cheetah that can run fast as a car. It is truly that are there are things that not truly beyond of our control. The second limitations, you did not choose to exist as you because you did not choose who your parents are. This is the most controversial limitations of all. It is because you and even your parents are not aware what will be your physical appearance will be. You did not choose the complexions of your skin, the shape of your lips, the thickness of your eyebrows, highness of your nose and the attractiveness of your eyes. It’s such a uncontrollable thing because your physical appearance will depends on your parents genes. Sometimes you felt down because you are insecure to those people who had a beautiful physical appearance. But let me tell you that you are unique and to be a better person does not depend on your physical appearance. In spite of having a limitation, you still have a freedom which could use to make best things in life. The final limitation is, you did not choose the time of your death and the culture of the society you were born in to. As you were still an innocent and sans anything you do not have the power to choose the time you were born. Even your parents also could not fell because it is unexpected happening to born a child even thought is not yet that time of your birth there is still a possibility that you will come out from your mother’s womb, to be specific a premature child. Another is the culture of the society you were born into, this factor will depend on your parents not yours because it is there choice to live to a certain society. Societies were they could find a perfect job to sustain your necessities. The culture will depend on the society where you belong culture such as religion in beliefs, wearing and language same with us here in general Santos city. There are things that you can no longer change. Yes they are lot limitations but remember you still have a freedom as you exist. You can take that freedom to make limitation as an opportunity so be good to achieve your goals. You may say that you are a product of socio-cultural and historical events but you have the power to change, to discover more outside your box. People in this hall could you still say that you are not free? It’s up to you! Ladies and gentlemen I am Julie May Lumahan in front of you speaking in leaving a message being free is a choice and having a choice is still free! Don’t let anyone dominate you; you are the beholder of your life! Remember you are to refuse but be ready for the consequences. Being free is not just doing what do you want, remember be responsible of being free to avoid negative happenings in life! Be matured enough guys! Be the one who strive for the better! GOD BLESS and GOOD DAY!
